Roulette Guide
Although it is one of the easiest games to play and one of
the games that is the most fun to play roulette is also the game that gives the
most advantage to the casino. The house
maintains a 5.26% advantage for all but one bet. The exception is the 0, 00, 1, 2, 3
combination that has an even more favorable advantage to the house of 7.29%. While some of the more sophisticated games
have well devised strategies that can greatly increase your chances of winning,
roulette offers no such strategies. Each
spin of the wheel offers a unique and unbiased roll. In addition to the complete randomness of the
outcomes, the odds are greatly in the favor of the house. The closest things to strategies when it
comes to roulette are the surrender rule and searching for wheels that do not
have a 00. The chart below lists some of
the bets you can make in roulette as well as the payouts for each and the odds
of each.

The Surrender Rule
There is a little known rule called the surrender rule that
is not in effect in all casinos. You should
always ask before you start to play so that you will be aware of whether or not
this rule applies to your game. If this
rule is in effect, it will apply to all bets that have a 1:1 payout. When this rule is applied, if the ball lands
on 0 or 00 you only lose half of your bet instead of your entire bet. This rule reduces the house advantage to
roughly 2.63%. Although the surrender
rule won’t increase your odds of winning at roulette, searching for a casino
that employs this rule will help you to reduce the house advantage on some
bets.
Tables without a
Double Zero
A roulette wheel consists of 37 or 38 numbered slots with
the numbers 1 – 36 plus a 0 and on some wheels a 00. Most American wheels include the 00 and this
inclusion further increases the odds in the house’s favor. In order to take advantage of this slight
reduction of the casino’s advantage, a wheel that does not include the 00 and
has only 37 slots will make the odds slightly less favorable to the
casino. Although, it is not much of an
advantage reduction, it is one strategy that can assist a roulette player.
